Welcome! Here at Bear State Goldens we are committed to building relationships as well as raising beautiful, confident, happy, healthy, socialized puppies. We breed from European and American lineages. We are a small home based breeder located in Northern California. Our mission is to selectively and carefully better the Golden Retriever breed. We work to follow breed standards, fully health test and assess temperament before any adults are officially added to our program. The dogs within our program are examined by Licensed veterinarians, Orthopedic Specialists, Ophthalmologists and Cardiologists for their health clearances. Our puppies are temperament tested for placement as it helps us have a better understanding of which puppy would be the best fit for each family based on the puppy’s potential & the family’s lifestyle. Most puppies in our litters will have a very similar temperament and personality. We allow puppy selections that are within our recommendations. Our puppies’ well being is our main priority and we reserve the ultimate decision of where our puppies call home. Our Golden’s are happy to meet new people, active, intelligent, eager to please and have a solid drive to enjoy fun outdoor activities but are typically much calmer in a relaxed home environment. They have the typical golden temperament of goofy, loving, playful, confident, friendly, tennis ball obsessed and water obsessed. Our Goldens enjoy retrieving, swimming, hiking, camping, running, games of chase, playing with other dogs, being their owner’s “shadow”, snuggling on the couch, carrying various items around(usually socks and shoes), being silly and getting lots of attention. We work to show and title our dogs to prove drive, temperament and trainability within the breed standard. All of our dogs live inside the comfort of our home in a loving environment and are treated as family pets. We do not have a commercial facility nor do we have a “kennel”. Our breedings are limited to only a couple litters per year and we begin accepting applications a couple months before the puppies arrive. Golden Retrievers are amazing(we’re a little biased) but they’re not for everyone.. please do your research, have an understanding of the breed and ensure that they align with your lifestyle prior to reaching out.

We are located in Orangevale which is around 25 minutes northeast of Sacramento, California. Located 2-3 hours from Reno NV, San Francisco CA, Santa Rosa CA, Chico CA, Fresno CA and San Jose CA. Our closest airport is SMF(Sacramento International Airport).
